Phoenix House

Puna, HI

This tiny house is part of a regenerative, off-grid community compound. It sits at the base of Mauna Loa volcano, which is not only still very active but is also known to be the largest volcano in the world. This 450 square foot solar-powered tiny home is situated on the 1990 Kalapana lava flow and is just 4 miles from a 100ft waterfall of lava flowing into the ocean at 1 ton a minute. With rainwater as the water supply for Phoenix House, minimalism is the core of its design. It is evident throughout this design, from recycled materials to regenerative power, that Phoenix House goes beyond sustainability by creating regenerative space for new life to occur. Phoenix House has an impacting feel with its unique, modern beach house/farmhouse style that reflects simplicity and elegance. This place reminds us of the temporal nature of life and the appreciation of the moment.
