Kodama House

Kodama House is a lofted treehouse bedroom with an accompanying deck and staircase in the coastal redwoods of Sonoma County, California. The use of rustic materials with contemporary architectural lines blends the beauty of nature and the order of the built environment. The exterior is minimalist, with attention to how materials will age in the redwood forest — we picked materials that would naturally become more beautiful over time, in line with the design aesthetic wabi-sabi. The name Kodama comes from Japanese folklore: Kodama are spirits that inhabit the trees, similar to the dryads of Greek mythology.
